Child deaths attributable to low birth weight and short gestation in Ethiopia

•  Low birth weight (newborn weight at birth <2500 grams) and short gestation (also described as preterm birth) are main risk factors for child deaths and poor health outcomes. These adverse birth outcomes could result from long-term maternal malnutrition, ill-health and poor health care in pregnancy.
• Low birth weight (prevalence: 10%-20%) and short gestation (prevalence: 8%-13%) are common adverse birth outcomes in Ethiopia.
