August 28, 2025NDMC2024Evidence Briefs

• Neonatal disorders are medical conditions affecting new-borns and infants

• According to WHO 2019 report, neonatal disorder was ranked 5th out of ten top mortality causes as a result killed two million new born and young children globally

• While it becomes the first leading cause of death for low-income countries inclusive of Ethiopia

• Most of neonatal disorders are easily preventable and treatable with available interventions and technologies.

• However evidence are scarce on the burden of each categories of neonatal disorder and the change overtime in Ethiopia

• The aim of this study is intended to address these evidence gaps through estimating national and subnational burden and trends of neonatal disorders and identify disparity among regions in Ethiopia from 1990 to 2021 using global burden of disease 2021 estimate.
