Somali Region Health Atlas, 2021 presents key results from EPHI and IHME collaborative subnational burden of disease analysis as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 for Somali region, a regional state of Ethiopia. All-cause mortality in Somali reduced from about 2,070 per 100,000 persons in 1990 to about 1,180 per 100,000 persons in 2019. The number of DALYs has significantly reduced from about 3,000,000 DALYs in 1990 to 3,000,000 in 2019. Total fertility declined from 7.3 births per woman in 1990 to 6.4 births per woman in 2019, a 12% change. Of the leading causes of YLLs and YLDs in Somali in 2019, Lower respiratory infections, Neonatal encephalopathy due to birth asphyxia and trauma and Diarrheal diseases are the leading three causes. Child and maternal malnutrition is the source of the greatest number of attributable DALYs, followed by Air pollution. The life expectancy in Somali increased from 50 years in 1980 to 65 years in 2019. Somali region population will live, on average, 57 healthy years, with 8 years lived with disability.
